Bridgend Council

Policy on scanning of stray dogs - Dog warden has discretion to contact – not automatic. Out of hours kennels may contact.

Policy on scanning of dead dogs  - The department responsible does not have access to a scanner.  Dead animals (both dogs and cats) have breed and markings recorded for identification if the owner calls, then animal is sent for cremation at pet crematorium.  If you think your dog is missing in the Bridgend area, it is therefore particularly important that you contact the Council directly and give as much information as possible about your dogs' appearance, and continue to phone regularly.

Microchipping provision - Although the website says that the dog warden "encourages" microchipping, there is no information on local provision or Council promotions, either operated directly or in partnership with other organisations.

Numbers of stray dogs and how they are dealt with - Click here to see Bridgend's stray dog summary (opens in new window).  This gives the figures for the previous four years.

Contact Details for Dog Warden Service  - The Council's website is very brief on the subject of dogs.  Click here to see the website checklist (opens in new window).

Costs of Releasing Dogs from Council Pounds - £48 fee plus kennelling fee per day or part day, plus any veterinary expenses. If you are going to Croft to reclaim your dog, bear in mind that payment is by CASH ONLY.

Kennelling  Services - Bridgend's kennelling services are provided by Croft Rescue Kennels, who operate a purpose built facility in Coity near Bridgend, where they accommodate stray dogs from both Bridgend Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.  Visit their website here (opens in new window).     The kennelling contract is due for renewal later this year.
