Houndmistress Blaenau Gwent Council Policy on scanning of stray dogs - Stray dogs are scanned, and owners are notified by phone and in writing. Policy on scanning of dead dogs - Dead dogs are scanned for microchips. Congratulations to BG Council for being a Council that does this. Sadly, the website makes no mention of this, and has no online form for reporting dead dogs. Microchipping provision - Offers reduced price chipping for £9.50 - very reasonable. Simply contact (01495) 355056 to arrange. Out of hours service for stray dogs - Like many Councils, the website gives no information on how to deal with stray dogs at weekends, evenings and on public holidays. Numbers of stray dogs and how they are dealt with - Click here to see the summary document for the Council's stray dog figures for the past four years, received via FOI requests. Additional services - Low cost neutering can be arranged - again, call (01495) 355056 to discuss with a dog warden. Website doesn't give much indication of promotional work. Contact Details for Dog Warden Service My own experience with Blaenau Gwent has been that they have been pretty prompt in responding to email queries. Their website does not provide a specific email contact for Dog Wardens, so use the generic Council one of info@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk Telephone (01495) 355054 Website link here (opens in new window). Click here to see the website checklist (opens in new window). Although the site gives the costs for release of dogs from kennels, it annoyingly doesn't give the payment methods accepted or much information about out of hours provision. Surely not all stray dogs in Blaenau Gwent work 9 - 5 ? Costs of Releasing Dog from Council Pound - Number of Days in Kennel Fee Up to 24 hours after impounding £40 2 days £77 3 days £85 4 days £95 5 days £100 6 days £110 7 days £120 All dogs who are kennelled are vaccinated, so in addition to the above fees, there will be a vaccination charge of £12 plus VAT. Payment has to be at the Council offices in Abertillery, who will then provide a release form to be taken to the kennels. Payment can be made by cash or cheque - there are no facilities at present for credit or debit cards. Payment by instalments can be made, but the statutory element (£40) must be paid as a deposit, then the outstanding amount is paid off either weekly or monthly. There is no interest payable. Kennelling Services - Provided by local boarding kennel. Revenue Budgets and Costs Per Stray For 2010/11 the revenue budget for the service was £108,770. For 2011/12 the revenue budget for the stray dog service is £104,285.
